Easter Island Environment Friday, Aug 24 2007

The Easter Island environment is like that of the worlds because of the impact that the humans which inhabited the island had on the environment.  The first people who came to the island found a rich and diverse ecosystem filled with numerous species of both plants and animals, a tropical paradise.  Humans as a species found the world much the same way when they came to be, a vast planet filled with too many different kinds of living things to count.  Both the Easter Island inhabitants and the human population as a whole has offset the balance that existed before they arrived, and both for the worse.

The Easter Island inhabitants most likely started in a similar fashion to how the world has treated the environment, by only changing the environment in small ways, cutting down a few trees and hunting some of the islands animals, but only what was necessary and not enough to throw the entire ecosystem into shambles.  However, as the islanders explored the island’s resources and learned of new ways to use them, the inhabitants began to fell trees in larger quantities and therefore affect the balance of the island more severely.  One of the biggest problems came with the construction of the heads on the island, which took up many resources.  Because the islanders had taken so much from their island andgiven nothing back, the entire environment spirald downwards, the island community with it.  New trees could not grow where the old ones had been felled, and the forests disappeared.  This obviously affected the animal species and the islanders were not able to survive off the remaining food sources.  The small society wasripped apart and never put back together.

I fear that if the human species continues to treat the environment the way it is now, we will eventually end up the same way the inhabitants of Easter Island did.  Obviously the process would take quite a bit longer on a worldwide scale, but is the inevitable outcome.  I believe we are at the stage where we are starting to consume too much and are throwing the environment off balance.  If we do not change the rate of our consumption of resources, we will end up realizing too late what we did and will spiral downwards, much like the inhabitants of Easter Island did solong ago.

Why Doyle is the wierdest person I have ever met Tuesday, Aug 21 2007

Doyle is the hariest person on the face of the earth and by the time we are out of college I believe he will be entirely covered and therefore unrecognizeable as any type of human being. He will be captured as an amazing gorilla that can somehow speak the human language.

If he moves out to the west coast for college as he says he will, I believe there will be earthquakes all along the fault line as his strange powers set the tectonic plates to moving. Jack Doyle may well cause the breaking off of the west coast into the pacific ocean and therefore will be the new king of a new island nation. However, the people of this new nation will soon tire with his only agenda to constantly build new roller coaster rides that only he is allowed to ride. He will then most likely be assassinated by a member of his own cabinet and then will forever be known as a man who changed the world forever by creating the most theme parks ever in a single week.
